The Keeper Notes Crew got together this week to make predictions on the 2016 Houston Dynamo and MLS season (so we can all look back and laugh later). Ten questions were asked and answered. There were consistent responses to some questions, while other responses beg the question of whether copious amounts of alcohol were involved.

Without further ado, the Keeper Notes predictions for the 2016 season:

2016 Dynamo Predictions

1.  What place do the Dynamo finish in the West?

Jen – 5th place

Hal – A slow start followed by recovery and 5th place.

Leo – The Houston Dynamo are still one season away from accomplishing anything of substance. They will be lucky to finish 5th.

FMF Rey – 6th place. They eke into the playoffs the same way I passed my college stats class: with a lot of dumb luck and some cheating off of my classmate.

Dwain – 7th place

Joe – 6th place if things break right, 7th place if not.

PK Ray – 5th place

2.  Breakout player not named Mauro Manotas?

Jen – Rob Lovejoy

Hal – Agus

Leo – Agus has looked decent without a full preseason. Just a month or two of more practices and some playing time will make him stand out from the rest.

FMF Rey – Cubo Torres. Shocked that some fans have already given up on a player that scored 22 MLS goals in 2859 minutes with Chivas USA. The Dynamo have never had a player score more than 12 goals in one season. Cubo scored 15 in 29 games in 2014 on a very bad team.

Dwain – Rey stole my Cubo answer so I’ll go with Leonel Miranda.

Joe – Rob Lovejoy

PK Ray – Realistic: Giles Barnes, Dream: Cubo Torres.

3.  Dynamo Golden Boot Winner?

Jen – Giles Barnes

Hal  – Will Bruin

Leo – Will Bruin will more than likely finish with his usual 10-12 goals and that will be good enough for the Golden Boot.

FMF Rey – Will Bruin with his usual 12.

Dwain – Cubo Torres

Joe – Will Bruin (usual 10 or 11 goals)

PK Ray – Cubo Torres

4.  Dynamo MVP?

Jen – Ricardo Clark….. (Forever Orange)

Hal – Tyler Deric

Leo – If Cristian Maidana is not the MVP, then the Houston Dynamo made a mistake bringing him in. He is supposed to be in Houston to be the game changer.

FMF Rey – Tyler Deric. Should have been the MVP in 2015, let’s not get it wrong again.

Dwain – Tyler Deric

Joe – Ricardo Clark (if he stays healthy)

PK Ray – Tyler Deric

5.  Over/Under – 8.5 Assists for Cristian Maidana?

Jen, Ray, Rey, Hal and Leo took the over. Dwain and Joe took the under.

6.  Biggest Disappointment in Orange this year?

Jen – Collen Warner

Hal – Cubo Torres

Leo – Erick Torres. If Will Bruin wins the Golden Boot as I predict, then Torres has will not have earned his transfer fee or his salary.

FMF Rey – The fans: who will continue to arrive late to games and just not show up through the inevitable rough patches.

Dwain – Owen Coyle whose conservative lineups and tactics will drive everyone crazy.

Joe – Barnes, will still score more than Cubo but overall expectations are higher IMO.

PK Ray – Boniek Garcia

MLS

7.  Conference winners?

Jen – FC Dallas and DC United

Hal – FC Dallas and NYRB

Leo – FC Dallas and NYRB

FMF Rey – FC Dallas

Dwain – Seattle and Columbus

Joe – FC Dallas and Columbus

PK Ray – LA Galaxy and NYRB

8.  Who wins MLS Cup?

Jen – A Canadian team for the first time!

Hal – Montreal Impact

Leo – FC Dallas

FMF Rey – FC Dallas. Send hate mail to my Twitter account.

Dwain – FC Dallas

Joe – Columbus

PK Ray – NYRB

9.  Darkhorse team to make a run at MLS Cup?

Jen – Orlando City

Hal – I picked Montreal to win it, that seems darkhorse enough.

Leo – Houston Dynamo

FMF Rey – Houston Dynamo. No really. This is a team that can contend for the worst record in the league if everything goes wrong, but a team with enough “players” to make a run of everything goes right.  That’s why we watch.

Dwain – Orlando City, but I am a huge Earnie Stewart fan. Just think it takes him a year to get everything together.

Joe – KC

PK Ray – Columbus Crew

10.  Any surprise or breakout player to watch?

Jen – Jordan Morris (breakout, not surprise)

Hal – Mauro Diaz

Leo – Stephen Wondolowski

FMF Rey – Jordan Morris

Dwain – Luciano Acosta and Harry Shipp

Joe – Lucas Melano

PK Ray – Giovanni Dos Santos
