The Houston Dash eclipsed their single season team goal scoring record and Kealia Ohai continued to top the league scoring charts as the Dash beat the visiting Boston Breakers 4-1.
Carli Lloyd pulled all the strings in a match that the Dash controlled from start to finish. The attacking midfielder scored two, was integral to the other two goals and had opportunities to net a hat trick.
Chasing a season sweep of the Breakers, Houston got on the scoreboard in the 26th minute thanks to a well placed throughball from Lloyd to Janine Beckie, and a good finish as the Canadian international slotted a low shot past keeper Jami Kranich.
Nine minutes later, Lloyd played Beckie through again. This time the forward hit a low ball across goal to a wide open Kealia Ohai who touched it in to make it 2-0. It was the 10th goal of the season for Ohai and continued her incredible recent run.
Boston pulled one back in the 76th minute when Kristie Mewis hit the post and Elise Krieghoff muscled the ball off of Cari Roccaro then blasted one past Lydia Williams.
The goal snapped the Dash back to life and they put two more past Kranich in the final fifteen minutes and might easily have had more.
For the first, Ohai played a nice ball into Lloyd who smashed it in from an angle.
The second, Denise O’Sullivan was clattered inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Lloyd stepped up to the spot and sent Kranich the wrong way to cap off a two goal, one assist performance.
The win moved the Dash back into 7th place and brought their season goal tally to twenty-seven in nineteen games, four better than their 2014 tally of twenty-three in twenty-four games.
