The USWNT returns to Houston for a friendly match against Russia, one of the 16 teams that will compete in this summer’s Women’s Euro championship, this Sunday at BBVA Compass Stadium. The WWC champs last played in the Bayou City in February 2016 in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying semifinals and final.

Keeper Notes knows that many USWNT fans travel to see their favorite team in person, so here are a few relevant details for those traveling for the match. Check out the map below, and feel free to forward questions to

Tickets for the match on Sunday, April 9 are on sale now, starting at $25 each (before fees). Ti
ckets can also be purchased by phone at 888-929-7849.

Note that *every* seat in BBVA has a great view of the field, but keep in mind that with a 1 pm kickoff, the seats on the lower east side (non-team-bench side) will be in full sun!

Kickoff for Sunday’s match is 1 pm. Note that there is a Houston Astros home game at the same time at the nearby Minute Maid Park, so if you’re driving to the game, give yourself extra time to get the stadium and find parking. It’s best to approach the stadium from the south or the east, since the Astros parking lot and stadium are just north/northwest of BBVA.

Another option is using Houston’s MetroRail. The EaDo/Stadium station on the green/purple line drops you off at the north side of BBVA, right by the will call windows. Uber is also an option.

There will be plenty of fan apparel on sale at the stadium on gameday, but if you want to gear up beforehand, you can drop by The Keeper’s soccer specialty store the day before – Soccer 4 All in Rice Village, 2425 Rice Blvd. Soccer 4 All has USA jerseys, tshirts and jackets, as well as official Houston Dash gear. All USA & Dash items in stock at any Soccer 4 All store on Saturday, April 8 wil be 15% off.

On Saturday night, Keeper Notes, Bayou City Republic and AO Houston are hosting a USWNT fan event at The Phoenix on Westheimer, the Keeper’s go-to place for USWNT, Dash & Dynamo watch parties.

Starting at 7 pm, the party will feature a special USWNT fan trivia game curated by Keeper Notes ($20 per team, up to 4 per team) and a charity raffle of WoSo collectibles, including an autographed Kealia Ohai cleat. All money from the raffle and the trivia event will benefit the Afghanistan WNT (whose GK coach is Houstonian Haley Carter) and the 2017 NWSL Woman of the Year Award (the first of its kind). At a similar event in NYC the night before the SheBelieves Cup game versus England, USWNT fans raised more than $900.

There will also be drink and food specials, and possibly an appearance by a few Houston Dash players!

There are several pubs around BBVA Compass Stadium that are good pre- and post-game hangouts. Keeper Notes recommends Lucky’s Pub (AO Houston’s official partner for USMNT watch parties), King’s Court and Little Woodrow’s. All are marked on the map below.

Houston is home to more than 10,000 restaurants (no joke!) featuring food from 70 different countries. Here are a few of the Keeper’s favorites that are close to the Wyndham hotel and/or BBVA Compass Stadium (all are marked on the map below):
