Dynamo on TV
Catch assistant coach John Spencer and forward Luis �ngel Land�n on "Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis" this afternoon at 3 pm on Fox Sports Houston. The weekly show airs every Thursday at 5 pm, and reairs Friday at 3 pm.
Season kickoff luncheon March 16
Dynamo Charities is hosting a luncheon on Tuesday, March 16 at the Hyatt Regency downtown to benefit Kicks 4 Kids and Kids Nite Out. Coach Dominic Kinnear, the entire roster, Dynamo Diesel and the Dynamo Girls will be there. Individual tickets are $55 ($45 for current season ticketholders). Lone Star showdown
The Austin Aztex of the USL will host the Dynamo on Sunday, March 14 at 5 pm at Nelson Field. Intercollegiate Futbol Fiesta Saturday
After Saturday's stadium rally, head south on I-45 to enjoy a doubleheader of local men's college soccer at San Jacinto College South (13735 Beamer Rd, 77089):
University of St. Thomas (NAIA) v Houston Leones (PDL), 6 pm
HBU (NCAA Division 1) v San Jacinto (NJCAA), 8 pm
Before the games, at 4 pm, there will be a "Kick for Hunger" youth soccer clinic. Kids get in FREE with a donation of two canned food items or non-perishable goods to be given to a local food pantry. More info at www.sanjac.edu/athletics/soccer/headlines35.shtml.
Stars & Stripes update
The US men face El Salvador Wednesday before they head to the continent for a match against the Netherlands. Game airs live at 6 pm on ESPN Classic and TeleFutura. Three Dynamo players -- Brian Ching, Brad Davis and Geoff Cameron -- are among the group training for this match.
Two more World Cup warmup matches have been added to the Stars & Stripes schedule -- May 25 against the Czech Republic (location TBA, probably on the East coast) and May 29 against Turkey in Philadelphia.
The US women are off to Portugal for the prestigious Algarve Cup. They will face Iceland (February 24), Norway (February 26) and Sweden (March 1) in the group stage. Fans can follow the action via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker. Roster includes the team's leading scorer Abby Wambach plus Hope Solo, Cat Whitehill, Shannon Boxx, Heather Mitts and Heather O'Reilly.
The women kick off their 2010 domestic schedule with two friendlies against Mexico next month -- March 28 in San Diego and March 31 in Salt Lake City.
San Jac men's soccer tryouts
Tryouts for San Jac's junior college team are open to high school seniors/recent graduates and college students. Participants are required to bring their own shinguards and are encouraged to bring water. Tryouts will be held at the south campus soccer field (13735 Beamer Road, 77089). Times and dates are as follows:
